Lahore: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Senator Aon Abbas Buppi announced that he will be parting ways with the party over May 9 riots erupted after the arrest of former premier Imran Khan on Friday.
The senator announced his resignation as the chairmanship of PTI South Punjab and stated that he has “decided to take a break from politics” in a statement.
Aon Abbas Buppi condemned the May 9 riots, which broke out following the detention of PTI leader Imran Khan, and claimed that the Pakistan army and the country are “inseparable.”
Since May 9, a number of PTI members, including former cabinet ministers Aamir Kiani and Malik Amin Aslam, have split from Imran over the violence that also spread to military installations.
Earlier, the May 9 riots were a series of violent incidents that took place on 9 May 2023, in Pakistan. Following the arrest of the party’s head, Imran Khan, from the grounds of the Islamabad High Court, demonstrations held by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf supporters descended into violent riots.
