SRINAGAR, occupied Kashmir: All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) leader Syed Ali Gilani has passed away here on Wednesday evening. He was 92.
Gilani was born on September 29, 1929 and served as the chairman of the APHC and the Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Jammu and Kashmir. He was against the Indian illegal occupation of Jammu and Kashmir throughout his life. He led the struggle of Kashmiris for their right to self-determination.
Gilani was a member of Jamaat-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir before founding his own Tehreek-e-Hurriyat.
He was previously a member of Jamaat-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir but later on founded his own party by the name of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat. He remained a member of Kashmir Assembly from the Sopore constituency of Jammu and Kashmir three times (1972, 1977 and 1987).
