Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir embarked on an official visit to the United States on Sunday, marking his first visit to the country in his capacity as the army chief, as confirmed by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The ISPR stated that during this visit, Gen Munir is scheduled to engage with senior military and government officials in the USA. This trip follows a prior telephone conversation between the army chief and US Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin in October, where they discussed mutual interests and recent regional developments.
In July, General Michael Erik Kurilla of US Central Command had met with COAS Munir in Rawalpindi, acknowledging Pakistan’s ongoing efforts for regional peace.
It’s worth noting that earlier in February, the ISPR had to dispel rumours surrounding a purported secret trip by COAS Munir to the US during his visit to the United Kingdom.
